By clue 1, three of the "Blintz and Co." characters making resolutions are
Holly, the project manager, and the one who is resolving to answer every
question with a "maybe." By clue 3, Rajeev is the computer programmer and
isn't the one who resolves to answer "maybe," so he is the fourth worker.
Since Wilbert isn't the project manager and isn't the one resolving to
always answer "maybe" (clue 5), Wilbert is the fifth "Blintz and Co."
employee. The project manager isn't the character resolving to never work
past 1:30 (7). Since the manager is either Ed or Edwina, and neither of
them is resolving not to open any e-mails or to leave any meeting running
longer than 5 minutes (6), the manager must be the one resolving to always
keep the cubicle door locked. By clue 2, the character resolving never to
work past 1:30 isn't Wilbert and is Holly or Rajeev. If Holly, who isn't
the administrative assistant (8), is the one resolving never to work past
1:30, then by clue 4, since Wilbert would be the one resolving to leave
meetings longer than 5 minutes or the one resolving never to open e-mails,
the person answering "maybe" would be the administrative assistant. Since
Wilbert isn't the technical writer (2), Holly would be--but the technical
writer isn't the one who is resolving never to work past 1:30 (2).
Therefore, Rajeev is the character who is resolving never to work later
than 1:30 in 2003. By clue 4, since Holly and Wilbert are resolving never
to open e-mails and to leave meetings after 5 minutes or vice versa, the
administrative assistant is the character who is resolving to answer every
question with a "maybe." Edwina is the administrative assistant (8), and
Ed then the manager. By clue 2, Holly is the technical writer and
Wilbert the engineer. Wilbert is resolving to leave all meetings lasting
longer than 5 minutes, and Holly is resolving never to open any e-mails in
2003 (9). In sum, the "Blintz and Co." regulars' New Year's resolutions
are as follows:
- Ed, project manager, always keep cubicle door locked
- Edwina, admin. asst., answer every question with "maybe"
- Holly, tech. writer, never open e-mails
- Rajeev, computer programmer, never work past 1:30
- Wilbert, engineer, leave meetings after 5 mins.
