By clue 1, the five radio personalities earned from $80-$200 during the
hour-long contest, with no two getting the same sum. By clue 2, Jeff begged
twice as much money as Miceli did; while by clue 6, the WZZZ-FM personality
brought in twice as much as the person who worked the corner of King St.
Jeff isn't on WZZZ-FM (clue 10), so, since no two made the same amount,
Miceli isn't the on-air personality who worked King St. (2, 6). Miceli
in clue 2 can't be the WZZZ-FM employee in clue 6, nor can Jeff in clue 2
be the beggar on the corner of King St. in clue 6, since in either case
the minimum amounts brought in would be $80 (1), $160, and $320, impossible by
clue 1. Therefore, there are four different Summerset radio personalities
given in clues 2 and 6: Jeff, Miceli, the WZZZ-FM person, and the one who
begged on the corner of King St. The top beggar made $200 (clue 1) and
is either the fifth person to the four just named, Jeff, or the one from
station WZZZ-FM. Trying the fifth person as the one who earned the high
of $200, then either Miceli or the person who sat on the corner of King
St. would have brought in the $80 in clue 1. If Miceli had, Jeff would
have begged $160 (2). By clue 6, however, the person who sat on the corner
of 6th Ave. and made $20 more than the person at the King St. intersection
couldn't be low-beggar Miceli and couldn't be the $200 earner or Jeff, since
the WZZZ-FM personality would then have earned more than the high of $200
(6). If the personality who had the King St. corner had begged the low of
$80, the WZZZ-FM personality would have brought in $160 and the beggar at
the 6th Ave. intersection would have earned $100 (6). The latter would have
to be Miceli in clue 2--but Jeff then would have begged $200, the same as
the fifth person and contradicting clue 1. So, the fifth person to the four
in clues 2 and 6 didn't make the high of $200. If the WZZZ-FM person had
made the $200, the one at the corner of King St. would have begged a total
of $100 and the one at the intersection with 6th Ave. would have cadged
$120 off passersby (6). Miceli would have made the least, $80 (1), with
Jeff bringing in $160 (2). By clue 5, Jeff would be on WGIV-FM, and
Lenderman would be the beggar at the 6th Ave. intersection. However, there
is no way for clue 12 to work. So, the WZZZ-FM competitor didn't make the $200
for the Community Chest; Jeff did, with Miceli then begging for $100 (2).
The personality in clue 6 who worked the corner of 6th Ave. must be either
the fifth to Jeff, Miceli, the WZZZ-FM employee, and the one who begged
on the corner of King St. or Miceli in clue 2. If the person at the corner
of 6th Ave. were the fifth one, then the one at King St. would have begged
the least sum, $80 (1). But the person at the 6th Ave. intersection then
would have brought in $100 (6), the same as Miceli. Miceli must be the
on-air personality who picked the 6th Ave. locale. Then the one at the
King St. corner made $80 and the WZZZ-FM personality $160 (6). By clue 7,
either Molly earned between $160 and $200 and the WZZZ-FM personality
begged at the corner of Lincoln and 5th or Molly is on WZZZ-FM and the fifth
person to the four named above was at the corner of Lincoln and 5th. Trying
the first arrangement, however, there is no way for Daniel to have earned $20
more than the person at the Harbor St. intersection (12). So, Molly is on
WZZZ-FM and the fifth personality worked the corner of Lincoln St. and 5th
Ave. The latter must be Daniel in clue 12, who must have begged $120, $20
more than Miceli at the corner of Harbor and 6th. By clue 5, Daniel is on
WGIV-FM, and Lenderman begged the $80. By clue 9, George is Miceli and
Alice Lenderman. Jeff was at the Palmetto St. and Molly at the Railroad
St. intersections (10). Jeff is on WRKP-FM (4), and his surname is then
O'Henry (8). He was at the corner of Palmetto and 1st Ave. (11). Molly
is Chan and Daniel Green (7). Alice begged at King and 3rd (3) and Molly
at Railroad and 7th. By clue 1, Alice is on WMAY-FM and George on WHOB-FM.
In sum, the radio personalities-turned-beggars made the following amounts
through their street corner singing:
- Jeff O'Henry, WRKP-FM, $200 at Palmetto St. & 1st Ave.
- Molly Chan, WZZZ-FM, $160 at Railroad St. & 7th Ave.
- Daniel Green, WGIV-FM, $120 at Lincoln St. & 5th Ave.
- George Miceli, WHOB-FM, $100 at Harbor St. & 6th Ave.
- Alice Lenderman, WMAY-FM, $80 at King St. & 3rd Ave.
