By clue 4, Jasmine the sheep is featured in July; while by clue 9, Annie is
October's photo subject. By clue 2, Kate is the calendar animal one month
before the cow, which appears one month before Duke. Since Annie isn't
the cow (clue 9), the three animals in clue 2 must appear during the first
six months of the year. By clue 6, Lulu is featured one month before Harvey,
who appears the month before the horse does. Since Annie isn't the horse
(9), the three animals in clue 6 must be in the first six months of the
calendar. However, since Kate isn't the horse (12), clues 2 and 6 do not
overlap each other; one clue describes the January-March animals and the
other the April-June ones. By clue 10, Ike is the featured animal one month
before Ginny, who is on the month page immediately before the dog. If clue
10 were to overlap with clue 2, Kate would be the dog and be featured for
April--but Ike and Harvey in clue 6 would both then be February's star.
If clue 10 were to overlap with clue 6, Ike would be the horse or Lulu would
be the dog. In the first case, however, Harvey and Duke would both be on
for March; while in the second case, Ginny and Duke would both be March's
animal. So, the three in clue 10 appear after June--Ike is August's and
Ginny September's animal, with Annie then the dog. By clue 1, the cat is
one month before Beau in the calendar. Kate isn't the cat (12), nor is
Harvey (3). If Duke were the cat, Beau would conflict with Lulu if Duke
were March's photo subject and with Jasmine if Duke were May's. So, the two
in clue 1 must be featured later than June; the cat is November's and Beau
December's animal. By clue 5, the donkey is featured the month before the
chicken, who isn't named Ginny. The donkey and chicken therefore must be in
the first six months of the calendar. Lulu isn't the donkey (13). The only
possibility is that Duke is the donkey and Lulu the chicken. Combining
clues 2 and 6, then, Kate is January's, the cow February's, Duke the donkey
March's, Lulu the chicken April's, Harvey May's, and the horse June's animal
star. Harvey isn't the goose (3); so, by clue 11, Kate is the goose and
Frances the cow. By clue 7, Elmer is June's and Chester November's calendar
subject. By clue 14, Ike is the turkey and Ginny the goat. Harvey is the
rabbit and Beau the pig (8). In sum, the Farmdale FFA farm calendar features
the "Animal of the Month" for each month in 2004 as follows:
- January - Kate the goose
- February - Frances the cow
- March - Duke the donkey
- April - Lulu the chicken
- May - Harvey the rabbit
- June - Elmer the horse
- July - Jasmine the sheep
- August - Ike the turkey
- September - Ginny the goat
- October - Annie the dog
- November - Chester the cat
- December - Beau the pig
