By clue 2, the couple who sailed on the S.S. Southern Star set sail
on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, as did the couple who sailed on the
S.S. Jewel (clue 5) and the couple whose cruise was on the
S. S. Queen Maud (7). If the S.S. Southern Star had set
sail on Wednesday, with the Cunards then on Tuesday's Cruise and the cruise
to Mexico then leaving Thursday (2), the S. S. Queen Maud couldn't
have left Tuesday, since the Sands would have then embarked Wednesday on
the S.S. Southern Star (7)--no (9). If the S.S. Southern Star
had set sail on Wednesday, with the Cunards then on Tuesday's Cruise and the
cruise to Mexico then leaving Thursday (2), the S. S. Queen Maud
couldn't have left Thursday, since its destination wasn't Mexico (10). So,
the S.S. Southern Star didn't sail Wednesday. If the S. S. Queen
Maud had left on Wednesday, with the Summerset Smashers cruise then
departing on Tuesday and the Sands' ship leaving on Thursday (7), the
S.S. Southern Star couldn't have gone on Tuesday or the S. S. Queen
Maud's destination would have been Mexico (2), which it wasn't (10).
If the S. S. Queen Maud had left on Wednesday, with the Summerset
Smashers cruise then departing on Tuesday and the Sands' ship leaving on
Thursday (7), the S.S. Southern Star couldn't have departed on Thursday
or the Sands would have sailed on it and didn't (9). So, the S. S. Queen
Maud isn't the one of the three to set sail on Wednesday; and the
S.S. Jewel must be. Then the ship sailing to the Bahamas left port
on Tuesday and the Kaye Marie Cosmetics cruise sailed on Thursday (5).
If the S. S. Queen Maud then sailed on Tuesday, the Sands would
have left Wednesday (7); however, the S.S. Southern Star would have
departed on Thursday and the Cunards then also on Wednesday (2). So, the
S.S. Southern Star departed on Tuesday and the S. S. Queen Maud
on Thursday. By clue 2, then, the Cunards were on Monday's sailing, and the
cruise leaving Wednesday went to Mexico; while by clue 7, the theme of the
S.S. Jewel cruise was Summerset Smashers football, and the Sands set
sail on Friday. By clue 4, the Sands enjoyed the Puzzle Phanatics cruise.
The Comedy Club cruise didn't go to the Bahamas (1), so the Naturists
cruise did. The Comedy Club cruise sailed on Monday--on board the S. S.
Majesty (1). The S. S. Atlantic Belle departed Friday. By clue
11, the Princes were on Thursday's cruise. The Fultons set sail Wednesday
and the Whites Tuesday (3). The cruise to the Virgin Islands didn't leave
on Friday (4) or Monday (6) and sailed on Thursday. Finally, by clue 8,
Monday's voyage was to Jamaica and Friday's to Trinidad. In sum, the five
couples set sail on their Themed Cruises as follows:
- Mon. - the Cunards, Comedy Club, S. S. Majesty, Jamaica
- Tue. - the Whites, Naturists, S.S. Southern Star, Bahamas
- Wed. - the Fultons, Summerset Smashers, S.S. Jewel, Mexico
- Thu. - the Princes, Kaye Marie Cosmetics, S. S. Queen Maud, Virgin Islands
- Fri. - the Sands, Puzzle Phanatics, S. S. Atlantic Belle, Trinidad
