By clue 11, the five top scouts in cookie sales totalled 1,800 boxes, with
the 5th-most total being 150. By clue 1, Marie sold twice as many boxes
as the Valdez girl, who sold 50 more boxes than than girl from Troop 1066;
while by clue 5, Lisa sold twice as many boxes as the scout from Fallston,
who sold 100 more boxes than the Sanders girl. Therefore, there must be
at least one girl common to the two clues. If Marie in clue 1 were the
girl from the Fallston troop in clue 5, letting the scout from Troop
1066 in clue 1 then sell 150 boxes of cookies, the Valdez girl would have
sold 200 and Marie 400 (clue 1), with Lisa then selling 800 and the Sanders
girl 300 (5)--a total of 1,850. If Marie in clue 1 were the Sanders girl in
clue 5, letting the girl in Troop 1066 sell 150 boxes, the Valdez girl would
have sold 200 and Marie 400 (clue 1), with the girl from Fallston then having sold
500 and Lisa 1000 (5)--a total of 2250. So Marie isn't also in clue 5.
If the Valdez girl in clue 1 were Lisa in clue 5, letting the Sanders girl
having sold the 150 boxes, the girl from the Fallston troop would have
sold 250 and Lisa Valdez 500 (5); by clue 1, Marie would have sold 1,000 boxes and the
scout in Troop 1066 450. However, the total of 2,350 would again conflict
with the 1,800 total in clue 11. If the Valdez girl were in the Fallston
scout troop, Marie (1) and Lisa (5) would have sold the same number of
boxes, contradicting the introduction. So, the Valdez girl is mentioned
only in clue 1; and the scout from Troop 1066 must be in both clues. If
the Girl Scout from Troop 1066 were Lisa, letting the Sanders girl's sales
total equal 150, the scout from Fallston would have sold 250 and Lisa 500
(5), while the Valdez girl would have sold 550 and Marie 1,100 (1)--a total
of 2,550. If the Girl Scout in Troop 1066 were the Sanders girl, letting her
sales total equal 150 boxes, the Valdez girl would have sold 200, Marie
400 (1), the girl from Fallston 250, and Lisa 500--a total of 1,500 and
short of the 1,800 total in clue 11. So, the girl from Troop 1066 must be
from Fallston. Between clues 1 and 5, then, the Sanders girl must have sold
the 150 boxes in clue 11, the girl from Fallston Troop 1066 sold 250, Lisa
sold 500 (5), the Valdez girl sold 300, and Marie led the way by selling
600 boxes of Girl Scout cookies (1)--a total of 1,800 and matching clue 11.
By clue 4, Marie is in Troop 197 and Lisa in Troop 711. By clue 2, the
Updike girl is in Fallston Troop 1066; and Kristin is the Sanders girl.
Jana is the Valdez girl (6) and Heidi is Miss Updike. By clue 9, the
girl in the Summerset troop sold twice as many boxes as the girl in Troop
418. If the girl from Summerset were Marie and the one in Troop 418 Jana,
with Kristin in Troop 325, since Jana isn't from Churchville (6), by clue 3,
Lisa would be from Churchville, and Marie would be Turner--who isn't
from Summerset (10). So, by clue 9, Jana is from Summerset and Kristin in
Troop 418. By elimination, Jana is in Troop 325. By clue 7, Lisa is from
Glenview. Marie is from Hillside and Kristin from Churchville (8). Marie
is Turner and Lisa Walton (8). In sum, the local leaders in sales of Girl Scout
cookies are
- 600 - Marie Turner, Troop 197, Hillside
- 500 - Lisa Walton, Troop 711, Glenview
- 300 - Jana Valdez, Troop 325, Summerset
- 250 - Heidi Updike, Troop 1066, Fallston
- 150 - Kristin Sanders, Troop 418, Churchville
