From the introduction, each of the six rooms was intended to be painted a
different color but was done in one of the other five paints. By clue 2,
the room intended to be painted Amethyst Creme didn't end up Moon Slice,
with the guest bedroom neither intended nor done in either of these two
shades; so three different rooms are named: the guest bedroom, the room
intended Amethyst Creme, and the room painted Moon Slice. By clue 6,
Sid didn't paint the room intended to be Moon Slice Amethyst Creme;
therefore, since the guest bedroom wasn't intended or done in either of
the two colors (2), we have the 4th and 5th bedrooms to the three in clue
2: the one intended Moon Slice and the one Sid did in Amethyst Creme. By
clue 3, the room meant to be done in Clam Shell ended up painted Pecan
Sundae; while by clue 8, Sid painted the room intended for Silver Cascade
Deep Mist. From these two clues, either the guest bedroom was meant to
be painted Silver Cascade but was painted Deep Mist, with the 6th room
then the one intended to be Clam Shell but done by Sid in Pecan Sundae; or
the guest bedroom was intended for Clam Shell but done in Pecan Sundae, with
the 6th room then meant to be painted Silver Cascade but painted Deep Mist.
Trying the first case, the guest bedroom meant to be painted Silver
Cascade but painted Deep Mist and the 6th room intended to be Clam Shell
but done in Pecan Sundae, by clue 4, Sid would have painted the kitchen
meant to be Deep Mist in Moon Slice. By elimination, the room painted
Amethyst Creme would have been intended to be Pecan Sundae. By clue 5,
the master bath wasn't intended to be painted or painted in either Clam
Shell or Silver Cascade; so it would have been meant to be Pecan Sundae
but would have been painted Amethyst Creme. The dining room wasn't the
one intended as Clam Shell but done in Pecan Sundae (clue 3) and wasn't
meant to be painted Moon Slice (6); it would have been intended to be
done in Amethyst Creme. By clue 1, the family room would have been meant
to be painted Moon Slice and Sid would have painted it Silver Cascade.
However, by elimination, Sid would have painted the dining room Clam
Shell--no (7). Therefore, possibility one above fails and we have two:
the guest bedroom was intended for Clam Shell but done in Pecan Sundae,
with the 6th room then meant to be painted Silver Cascade but painted
Deep Mist. By clue 4, the kitchen meant to be painted Deep Mist ended
up as Moon Slice. By elimination, the room that Sid painted Amethyst
Creme was meant to be painted Pecan Sundae. By clue 5, the master bath
was intended to be in Pecan Sundae but was painted Amethyst Creme. The
dining room wasn't intended to be done in Moon Slice (6) or Silver Cascade
(8) and was meant to be Amethyst Creme--but ended up Silver Cascade (7).
The room meant to be Moon Slice Sid did in Clam Shell. The family room
was intended to be Silver Cascade (1) and the living room Moon Slice. In
sum, the six rooms were intended to be painted by Sydney Slapdash but were
painted by Sid Slapdash the following shades:
- dining room, intended Amethyst Creme, done Silver Cascade
- family room, intended Silver Cascade, done Deep Mist
- guest bedroom, intended Clam Shell, done Pecan Sundae
- kitchen, intended Deep Mist, done Moon Slice
- living room, intended Moon Slice, done Clam Shell
- master bath, intended Pecan Sundae, done Amethyst Creme
