According to the introduction, each of the 24 faces of the Letter Dice has
a different letter on it; the letters Q and Z do not appear. Given the word
FURY, we arbitrarily assign F to die 1, U to die 2, R to die 3, and Y to die 4.
From GEAR, neither G nor E can go on die 3 with R; while from GLUT and USED
respectively, neither G nor E can be on die 2 with U. G and E are in dice
1 and 4 or vice versa. Given GEAR, then, the A can't be on dice 1 and 4 nor
on die 3 with R. A is on die 2 with U. From FOAM, M isn't on die 1 with F
or die 2 with A. M also isn't on die 3 with R (BRIM) and is on die 4. By
elimination, the O in FOAM is on die 3. From GEAR, if the E is on die 1
and the G on die 4, S wouldn't be on dice 1, 2 (USED), or 3 (STOP) and would
be on 4. The P wouldn't be on die 1 (PINE), 3, or 4 (STOP) and would be on
die 2. The T in STOP would be on die 1. The L in GLUT would be on die 3.
the D in USED would be on die 3. W wouldn't be on die 2, 4 (WAXY), or 1
(WITH) and would be on die 3. I wouldn't be on die 1 (WITH), 3, or 4 (BRIM)
and would be on 2--with the P, a contradiction with PINE. So, from GEAR,
G would be on die 1 and E on die 4. S isn't on die 2, 4 (USED), or 3 (STOP)
and is on die 1; the D in USED is on die 3. T isn't on die 1, 2 (GLUT), or
3 (STOP) and is on 4. Then L is on die 3 (GLUT) and P on die 2 (STOP). I
isn't on die 2, 4 (PINE), or 3 (BRIM) and is on die 1. The N in PINE is on
die 3, and the B in BRIM is on die 2. W isn't on die 1, 4 (WITH), or 2
(WAXY) and thus completes die 3. The H in WITH is on die 2, while the X in
WAXY is on die 1. From JERK, neither the J nor the K can be on die 4, so
the C and V must complete die 4. K must be on die 2 (LICK) and J on die 1.
In sum, the letters on the four dice of Letter Dice 5 (in order of
recovery) are
- FGSIXJ
- UAPBHK
- RODLNW
- YMETCV
