The five wallpaper patterns are given in clue 1: "Jasmine," the one supposed
to go in the living room, the one intended for the kitchen, the one that
Sid wallpapered the master bath with, and the one that actually went on
the kitchen walls. By clue 4, the wallpaper Mrs. Slapdash picked for
the dining room isn't what ended up in the master bath; therefore, the
wallpaper meant for the dining room is either "Jasmine" or ended up in
the kitchen. If the latter were the case, "Jasmine" would have
been Mrs. Slapdash's choice for the bath; and the bath would have been
wallpapered in the pattern meant for the guest bedroom. By clue 8, and
since Sid did not simply exchange the wallpaper for any two rooms (clue 10),
the wallpaper picked for the living room would have ended up in the guest
bedroom. Since no two rooms simply had the patterns reversed, the
master bath pattern would have actually been used in the dining room--no
(6) So, by clue 4, the wallpaper meant for the dining room is "Jasmine."
Then the pattern that Sid put in the kitchen was meant for the bath, while the
one that ended in the master bath was meant for the guest bedroom. By clue 8,
the wallpaper ending up in the guest bedroom was meant either for the dining
room or for the living room. If the latter were the case, the wallpaper picked
for the dining room would have ended up in the living room and the pattern chosen
for the kitchen would have gone on the dining room walls. By clue 2, the room Mrs.
Slapdash chose to wallpaper with "Palace Green" was done by Sid in "Desert Rose";
the room isn't the guest bedroom (2). If the room in clue 2 were the kitchen,
"Desert Rose" would be the pattern picked for the master bath--no (9). If the
room in clue 2 were the master bath, "Flight" would be the pattern that ended
up on the guest bedroom walls (3) and "San Clemente" in the dining room although
meant for the kitchen, a conflict with clue 5. Therefore, by clue 8, the
wallpaper meant for the dining room was put on the guest bedroom walls. Then
the wallpaper Mrs. Slapdash picked for the living room ended up in the dining
room, while the wallpaper chosen for the kitchen Sid used in the living room.
By clue 2, the room Mrs. Slapdash chose to wallpaper with
"Palace Green" was done by Sid in "Desert Rose"; the room isn't the
guest bedroom (2). If the room in clue 2 were the kitchen, "Desert Rose"
would be the pattern picked for the master bath--no (9). If the room in
clue 2 were the living room, by clue 5, "San Clemente" would have been
picked for the guest bedroom and "Flight" for the master bath--a conflict
with clue 7. So, the room in clue 2 meant to be done in "Palace Green"
is the master bath, with "Desert Rose" chosen for the guest bedroom. By
clue 5, Sydney Slapdash decided on "San Clemente" for the living room and
"Flight" for the kitchen. In sum, the patterns each with the room
Mrs. Slapdash intended it for and the one Sid wallpapered it with are
as follows:
- "Desert Rose," guest bedroom, master bath
- "Flight," kitchen, living room
- "Jasmine," dining room, guest bedroom
- "Palace Green," master bath, kitchen
- "San Clemente," living room, dining room
