| According to the introduction, each of the 24 faces of the Letter Dice has
a different letter on it; the letters J and X do not appear. Given the word
PLUM, we arbitrarily assign P to die 1, L to die 2, U to die 3, and M to die
4. From DUPE, E isn't on die 1 or die 3; while from PILE, E isn't in die 2.
E is on die 4, with D then on die 2 (DUPE) and I on die 3 (PILE). Given SECT
and THIS, S is on die 1 or die 2 with T then on the other of die 1 or die 2.
From SECT, then, C must be on die 3; while from THIS, H must be on die 4.
A isn't on die 2 or die 4 (HARD), nor is A on die 3 (QUAY). A is on die 1.
Then from HARD, R is on die 3, with the Z in RAZE on die 2. The Y in ZANY
isn't on die 3 with U (QUAY), so Y is on die 4 with the ZANY N on die 3.
Q is on die 2 (QUAY). From SECT and THIS, S and T are on dice 1 and 2 or
vice versa. Trying T on die 1, with S on die 2, the O in SOCK is on die 1
or die 4. If the O in SOCK were on die 1, K would be on die 4. From KNOB,
B would complete die 2. However, there would be then no way for G and W from
GROW to be on different dice. If the O in SOCK were on die 4, K would be
on die 1. From KNOB, B would complete die 2. Again, however, there would be
no way for G and W from GROW to be on different dice. Therefore, the T
in SECT and THIS must be on die 2, with the S on die 1. The O in SOCK is on
die 2 or die 4. If the O were on die 4 with the K on die 2, there then would
be no way for G and W from GROW to be on different dice. The O in SOCK
comes from die 2 and the K from die 4. B is on die 1 (KNOB). The W in GROW
can't be on die 1 with S (VOWS) and is thus on die 4; G is on die 1. The V
in VOWS completes die 3. By elimination, F is on die 1. In sum, the letters
on the four dice of Letter Dice 9 (in order of recovery) are
