According to the introduction, each of the 24 faces of the Letter Dice has
a different letter on it; the letters Q and Z do not appear. Given the word
PAVE, we arbitrarily assign P to die 1, A to die 2, V to die 3, and E to die
4. From AXIS, S isn't on die 2, while from SPUN, S isn't on die 1; S is on
die 3 or die 4. If S were on die 4, since N isn't on the same die as A (FANG),
the N in SPUN would be on die 3 and U on die 2. From GORE, G isn't on the
same die as E; given FANG, then, G would be on die 1 and F on die 4. O isn't
on the same die as G, E (GORE), or U (BOUT) and would be on die 3. The R in
GORE would be on die 2. The I in AXIS would be on die 1 or die 3. If the I
in AXIS were on die 1 and the X on die 3, T wouldn't be on die 1 (KITH), 2,
or 3 (BOUT) and would be on 4. K wouldn't be on die 1, 4 (KITH), or 2 (JERK)
and would be on die 3. The W in WAIF would then be the 6th letter on die
3--impossible, since none of the letters in MILD could be on that die. If the I
in AXIS were on die 3 and the X on die 1, the K wouldn't be in die 2, 4
(JERK), or 3 (KITH) and would be on die 1. T wouldn't be on die 1 (KITH), 2,
or 3 (BOUT) and would be on 4. The B in BOUT and the W in WAIF would both
be on die 1--again impossible, since none of the letters in MILD could be on
that die. So, the S in AXIS isn't on die 4 and is on die 3. Since N isn't
on the same die as A (FANG), the N in SPUN would be on die 4 and the U on
die 2. From FANG, either F is on die 1 and G on die 3, or vice versa.
If F were on die 1 and G on die 3, O wouldn't be on die 2 (BOUT), 3, or 4
(GORE) and would be on die 1. The R in GORE would be on die 2. The I in
AXIS would be on die 4 (WAIF) and the X on die 1. T wouldn't be in die 1,
2 (BOUT), or 4 (KITH) and would be on die 3. The B in BOUT would be on
die 4. K wouldn't be on die 2, 4 (JERK), or 3 (KITH) and would be on die 1.
Then the J in JERL would be on die 3. The W in WAIF would be the sixth
letter on die 3--again impossible, since none of the letters in MILD could
be on that die. So, from FANG, the F isn't on die 1; F is on die 3 and G
on die 1. O isn't be on die 2 (BOUT), 1, or 4 (GORE) and is on die 3.
The R in GORE is on die 2. The AXIS I is on die 1 or die 4. If the I were
on die 4, with X on die 1, the W in WAIF would be on die 1. T wouldn't be
on die 2, 3 (BOUT), or 4 (KITH) and would be on die 1. B in BOUT would be
on die 4. K wouldn't be on die 1, 4 (KITH), or 2 (JERK) and would be on
die 3, with the J in JERK then on die 1--again impossible, since none of
the letters in MILD could be on that die. So, the AXIS I is on die 1 and
the X on die 4. T isn't on die 1 (KITH), 2, or 3 (BOUT) and is on 4.
B (BOUT) is on die 1. K isn't on die 1, 4 (KITH), or 2 (JERK) and is on
die 3. The JERK J is on die 1, and the KITH H is on die 2. W (WAIF ) is
on die 4. M isn't on die 1 (MILD), 2, or 4 (HYMN) and is on 3. The Y in
HYMN is on die 1. If the L were on die 2, the C in CLOY would complete
die 4--but MILD could not be made. So, the L is on die 4, and C and D
are the last two letters on die 2. In sum, the letters on the four dice
of Letter Dice 10 (in order of recovery) are
- PGIBJY
- AURHCD
- VSFOKM
- ENXTWL
