By clue 1, Kristin , then the 5-year-old, and then the child who got a
lollipop glued into Sid's beard sat on Santa's lap consecutively; so Kristin
was either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in order. If Kristin had been 3rd, with the
5-year-old then 4th and the child who stuck the lollipop in Sid's beard
5th (clue 1), since Kristin isn't the Towne child (6) and Anna didn't get
the lollipop in Sid's beard (7), the Towne child would have been 1st and
Anna 2nd to visit Santa Saturday morning (10). By clue 8, the Towne child
would be Chad, and Anna would have spilled grape soda on Sid's pants. By
clue 4, Brent would be the 5-year-old. However, there is no way clue 13
can work given this arrangement. Therefore, Kristin wasn't Sid's 3rd visitor
Saturday. If Kristin had been 2nd in line Saturday morning, with the
5-year-old then 3rd and the child who stuck the lollipop in Sid's beard 4th
(clue 1), since Kristin isn't the Towne child (6) and Anna didn't get the lollipop
in Sid's beard (7), the Towne child would have gotten the lollipop into Sid's
beard and Anna would have been 5th in line (10). By clue 13, Kristin would be
the 3-year-old and Grace 5. Since the 3-year-old isn't the soda-spiller (2),
Chad would have been 4th and the one who spilled soda 5th in line (8).
Brent would have been 1st to visit Santa, with Kristin then the North
child (4). However, there is no way for clue 11 to work given this
arrangement. Therefore, Kristin wasn't Sid's 2nd visitor Saturday and
was 1st in line, with the 5-year-old 2nd and the child who stuck the lollipop
in Sid's beard 3rd. Since Kristin isn't the Towne child (6) and Anna didn't
get the lollipop in Sid's beard (7), the Towne child would have been 3rd or
4th with Anna then 4th or 5th to visit Santa Saturday morning (10). If
the Towne child had been 3rd and Anna 4th, by clue 4, Brent would be the
Towne child and Anna the North child. However, there is no way for clue 8
to work given this arrangement. So, in clue 10, the Towne child was 4th
and Anna 5th in line to visit Santa. By clue 8, Chad was either 3rd or 4th
in line. If Chad had been 4th and the child who spilled the grape soda 5th
(8), Kristin would be the 3-year-old and Grace the 5-year-old (13). However,
there is no way for clue 4 to then work. So, in clue 8, Chad was 3rd and the
child who dumped the grape soda in Sid's lap 4th in line. If the Marino and
Ruiz children in clue 11 were 2nd and 3rd to visit Santa, since the North
child wasn't 1st in line (4), the Ashe child would have gone 1st--no (9).
In clue 11, then, the Marino child was 1st and the Ruiz child 2nd in line.
Then the 7-year-old was 4th and the Ashe child 5th (9). By elimination,
the North child is Chad, so Brent was 2nd in line (4). Grace was 4th, with
the 3-year-old then 3rd (13). By clue 12, Anna Ashe told the other children
that Santa Cluas wasn't real; Anna is 4 and Kristin 6 (3). Kristin read the
two-page list and Brent screamed for five minutes before sitting in Santa's
lap (5). In sum, Santa Claus Sid Slapdash's first five visitors were as follows:
- 1st -- Kristin Marino, 6, read two-page list
- 2nd -- Brent Ruiz, 5, screamed for five minutes
- 3rd -- Chad North, 3, stuck a lollipop in Sid's beard
- 4th -- Grace Towne, 7, spilled a grape soda on Sid's pants
- 5th -- Anna Ashe, 4, told the waiting children Sid wasn't the real Santa Claus
