| From the introduction, each row and each column of the 6x6 Word Square
contains the characters PITCH and a space cell in some order, so that no
character or space can be repeated in a row or a column. By clue 1, in row 1
H is immediately followed by I. The H can't be in column 1 with the I in
column 2, since the column 2 I is the 5th letter down the column (clue 6).
The H can't be in column 2 with the I in column 3, since the column 3 I is
2nd or later down the column (9). The H can't be in column 4 with the I in
column 5, since the column 4 H is the last letter down that column (10).
The H can't be in column 5 with the I in column 6, since the 1st letter
down column 6 is T (2). Therefore, in row 1, H is in column 3 and I in
column 4. I is in row 2 of column 3 (9). By clue 13, C is the 1st letter
down both columns 2 and 5, so that column 2 has C in row 1 with column 5
having C in row 2 with space in row 1, or column 5 has C in row 1 with
column 2 having C in row 2 with space in row 1. Trying the first case, by clue 7,
the row 4 P would be in column 4 with the row 2 space then in column 6--no
(3). So, by clue 13, column 5 has C in row 1 with column 2 having C in
row 2 with space in row 1. T is in column 6, row 1 (2) and, by elimination,
P is in column 1 of row 1.  By clue 5, C is the 1st letter across row 3;
since the column 2 C is in row 2, the row 3 C must be in column 1. By
clue 6, the column 2 I is in row 6. Then the row 5 I is in column 1 (11).
The column 1 H is in row 6 (14). By clue 8, TC are in direct order across
row 4--so the column 1 T can't be in row 4 and is in row 2, with the column 1 space
in row 4. By clue 10, the column 4 H is in row 5 with the column 4 space
in row 6. Since the row 5 space isn't in column 3 (12), the column 3
space is in row 3. Since the row 2 space isn't in column 4 and isn't in
column 6 (3), it must be in column 5. By elimination, the row 5 space
is in column 6. In row 2, P is in column 4 (7) and H in column 6. In row 3,
H isn't the 4th letter across (4); H must be in column 2. By elimination,
the row 4 H is in column 5. The column 5 I is in row 3, with the column 6
I in row 4. In row 3, P is in column 6 and T in column 4. The C in
column 4 is in row 4 and the C in column 6 in row 6, with the row 4 T then
in column 3 (8). Completing row 4 is P in column 2, with T in row 5
completing column 2. Row 6 T is in column 5, with column 5 P then in row 5.
C in row 5 is in column 3, with P in column 3 in row 6 finishing the solution.
In sum, Word Square 14 is filled as follows:

|   | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 |
| 1  | P |        | H | I | C | T |
| 2  | T | C | I | P |        | H |
| 3  | C | H |        | T | I | P |
